The founder of DevaCurl has made allegations that some hair products cause hair loss, the company says it is making a “strong commitment” to not use any ingredients which can damage or harm hair. The FDA will be investigating whether the claims are true and if there is an issue about this with other companies’ items on shelves in Canada.
The “devacurl lawsuit update 2021” is a story about the company DevaCurl, who has been sued by the FTC for false advertising. The article says that there are no studies to back up their claims of hair growth.
A class action complaint has been filed against Deva Concepts LLC, claiming that its DevaCurl products cause hair loss.
The DevaCurl class action complaint claims that the business garnered public attention in 2002 when it created a recipe for a product named DevaCurl No-Poo Original.
According to the DevaCurl website, “No-Poo” implies that the product does not lather since it does not include sodium lauryl sulfate, which is found in most other shampoos on the market.
The website’s FAQ page says, “Years ago hairdressers realized sodium lauryl sulfate was super-harsh and that bubbles did not equal clean.”
“DevaCurl developed a botanically-infused cleanser with a particular pH level that cleans the scalp without damaging the follicles. According to the DevaCurl FAQ, the result was the world’s first conditioning cleanser, also known as the “No-Poo Original.”
The hair loss class action complaint names the following DevaCurl products:
- Non-lathering conditioning cleanser DevaCurl No-Poo Original

Consumers pay a premium for DevaCurl products based on DevaConcepts’ claims that the goods are less abrasive than other treatments on the market, according to the DevaCurl class action complaint.
“However, despite Deva Concepts’ promises, which have led to many curly haired consumers across Canada purchasing and using the DevaCurl Products, normal use of the Products causes scalp irritation, excessive shedding, hair loss, thinning, breakage, and/or balding,” the DevaCurl class action lawsuit claims.
To make matters worse, the DevaCurl class action lawsuit claims that Deva Concepts misleads consumers into believing that the shedding and hair loss caused by the products is normal, and that any excessive hair loss is due to factors other than DevaCurl use, such as stress, dandruff, weight loss, giving birth, scalp buildup, and certain illnesses.
Plaintiff Sara Himmiche of Montreal claims that after purchasing and using DevaCurl products, she suffered scalp discomfort and hair loss. She alleges that the defendant made false and misleading statements regarding DevaCurl goods and neglected to disclose that they were faulty.
Sara seeks damages for increased risk of hair loss and scalp irritation, anxiety and emotional anguish, unjust enrichment and restitution, and punitive damages in the DevaCurl hair loss class action case. She also wants a return of the money she spent on the goods.
Sara claims that she isn’t alone. Thousands of customers have suffered hair loss while using or soon after utilizing DevaCurl products, according to the DevaCurl class action complaint.
According to the Deva Concepts class action complaint, angry consumers have turned to social media to complain about DevaCurl hair loss. Nearly 50,000 people have joined a Facebook group that expresses worry about DevaCurl scalp discomfort and hair loss. A search on Instagram for #RecallDevaCurl turns up hundreds of postings from customers pleading for Deva Concepts to recall the product, according to the lawsuit.
Deva Concepts has taken notice of these complaints, according to the DevaCurl hair loss class action lawsuit, and posted an update on its website on Feb. 11 to reassure customers that its products have been subjected to “rigorous testing that has confirmed they are safe and adhere to both quality assurance and regulatory standards.”
Sara claims that Deva Concepts has not issued a product recall or informed customers about the dangers of hair loss or other hazards connected with DevaCurl products. According to the DevaCurl hair loss class action complaint, the business has disputed that its products create any health problems.
Sara claims Deva Concepts failed to fulfill its responsibility to create and sell goods that are safe for customers to use. According to her, the business did not adopt sufficient quality control procedures to guarantee that the goods were defect-free.
Anyone in Quebec who bought or utilized one or more Deva Concepts or DevaCurl products for sale in Canada is a class member in the proposed Deva Concepts hair loss lawsuit. Sara claims that the DevaCurl scalp discomfort and hair loss have caused her, as well as other members of the proposed Class, long-term worry and emotional anguish.
