Bravecto Says Meds Aren’t Safe For Pets

Bravecto is a new medication that claims to be safe for pets. However, the FDA has found that this medication may cause side effects in cats and dogs. The article goes on to list the side effects of bravecto.

A new report found that up to 70% of the medications sold in America are not safe for pets. What is being done about this?

Consumers have filed a class action complaint against Merck Animal Health, alleging that their dog and cat medication Bravecto includes a pesticide that is hazardous to pets.

Bravecto pills and topical medicines are promoted as a method to prevent ticks and fleas for up to three months in both cats and dogs.

Valerie Palmieri claims she spent less than $50 for a single Bravecto chewable pill to treat her 78-pound German Shepherd Jake for fleas and ticks.

Jake began vomiting, refusing to eat, and exhibiting signs of lethargy after taking the medication, according to the Bravecto class action complaint. Jake was allegedly taken to an emergency animal clinic by the plaintiff after he was no longer able to walk.

Palmieri says she called Merck to discuss Jake’s potential bad response to the medication. The firm reportedly disputed that Bravecto was to blame for Jake’s illness, but promised to cover the cost of his emergency hospital visit.

According to the Bravecto class action complaint, the business would only pay if she signed an agreement waiving any rights against the corporation.

The plaintiff says she hesitated to disclose her claims because she didn’t know if Jake’s problems would be long-term and wasn’t sure whether the medication was to blame for her dog’s issues.

Following further testing and a visit to a neurologist, the plaintiff’s veterinarian reportedly informed her that he “presumed” that Jake’s diagnosis of meningitis was caused by “Bravecto toxicity,” contradicting what the defendant had told her.

Jake has continued to suffer neurological episodes after taking the medication, according to the Bravecto class action complaint. He allegedly fractured his leg after falling down a flight of stairs in September of this year. Jake swallowed Bravecto, according to the lawsuit, and she has spent “tens of thousands of dollars” treating him.

Palmieri claims that the tablet’s box and contents did not warn her that neurological side effects might occur if she took it. Furthermore, the defendant is accused of failing to inform veterinarians of the drug’s potential for causing harm to dogs.

Customers would be reasonable in buying Bravecto to treat their dogs in a safe way since Defendant neglected to disclose the dangers of Bravecto to consumers and misrepresented the safety of Bravecto, according to the class action complaint.

The FDA issued a warning in September 2018 regarding the potential neurological problems linked with flea and tick medications like Bravecto, according to the Bravecto class action complaint.

According to the Bravecto class action lawsuit, the FDA has requested that manufacturers change their labels to “highlight neurological events because these events were seen consistently across the isoxazoline class of products” and to “provide veterinarians and pet owners with the information they need to make treatment decisions for each pet on an individual basis.”

The plaintiff claims that the defendant has recently disclosed that using Bravecto may cause neurological side effects such as tremors, ataxia, and seizures.

The Bravecto class action lawsuit claims that “every consumer who purchased Bravecto without being informed of the true facts about its health and safety risks prior to purchase was injured at the point of sale when, instead of receiving a safe flea and tick medication, they received Defendant’s unreasonably dangerous and defective product.”
