HIV medications are commonly prescribed to combat the effects of HIV. These drugs come with side effects, which is why it’s important for patients to understand what these side effects are and how they can be managed.
The efavirenz, emtricitabine/tenofovir side effects is a list of the most common side effects that HIV patients experience.
Have you or a loved one had kidney or bone density problems after using Truvada or another HIV drug?
Patients say that the pharmaceutical has the potential to produce a safer medicine after a class of popular HIV drugs has been connected to bone density and renal issues.
Gilead produces HIV medicines that have these bone density and renal adverse effects, and the active component is tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF). The HIV medicines in question are:
- Atripla
- Complera
- Stribild
- Truvada
- Viread
These medications are said to cause chronic renal disease, including kidney damage and failure, as well as bone demineralization owing to low bone density, which has led to bone fractures in certain instances.
If you have had kidney or bone density issues while using one of the HIV medicines mentioned above, you may be eligible to participate in our HIV drug lawsuit study.

Side Effects of HIV Medications (Overview)
Gilead produces numerous antiretroviral medicines using the active component tenofovir, which belongs to the nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor class (NRTIs).
These medications are designed to stop the HIV virus from reproducing in the bodies of HIV patients. Stopping replication is essential because it inhibits disease spread and aids the immune system.
Gilead makes HIV medicines that include the active component tenofovir.
Lawsuits involving Atripla, Truvada, and Viread, as well as class action lawsuits.
Gilead has been sued for personal injury and class action lawsuits claiming that its tenofovir-containing medicines, including as Atripla, Truvada, and Viread, cause kidney and bone damage.
According to a lawsuit filed in July 2018 over Truvada side effects, the problem is that these drugs have low bioavailability, which means they are not well absorbed. As a consequence, in order to deliver the claimed antiviral effect, HIV medicines must be “ingested at large doses.”
According to the Truvada complaint, an excessive quantity of tenofovir gets up in patients’ bones and kidneys. And this is occurring to people who are already dealing with the effects of HIV.
The Truvada complaint claims that Gilead knew about these problems from the beginning of the medication’s development, particularly that the pill had poor bioavailability and that high dosages harmed the kidneys and bones.
‘Doctors ‘consider monitoring’ bone mineral density ‘in patients with a history of pathologic fracture or who are at risk for osteopenia,’ according to Gilead.
The individual who filed the Truvada complaint in July was just 26 years old when he started taking the HIV medication and had no history of osteopenia or fractures, but he claims that Truvada caused his bone mineral density to deteriorate.
The Truvada complaint also claims that Gilead possesses a safer medication that is far less harmful to the kidneys and bones, which it has kept from the public “until Gilead had exhausted the revenues it might collect from Truvada.”
Similar accusations have been leveled against Gilead in the cases of Atripla, Complera, Stribild, and Viread.
